Frant Gwo’s The Wandering Earth, which has already earned over $610 million at the Chinese box office, has now made a landing on Netflix.

The Wandering Earth stars Li Guangjie (Drug War), Qu Chuxiao (Bloody Romance), Ng Man-tat (Shaolin Soccer), Zhao Jinmai (A Love For Separation) and martial arts star Wu Jing (Wolf Warrior II, SPL II).

Here’s a snippet of the film’s plot, which is based off a short story by Liu Cixin: In the near future, the Sun ages and is about to turn into a red giant, pushing the nations of the world to initiate a project to move Earth out of the Solar System to the Alpha Centauri system, in order to preserve human civilization.

  1. Place your bets that this gets distributed stateside as ‘Wolf Warrior 2025’. 😛

Why do we keep sending thespians who aren’t particularly known for their thespeeing to space? There’s no one to fight up there. You want it to work, you gotta send Vincent Zhao or Zhang Jin up there with em. Then you gimmick that shit up. Wu Jing vs. Zhang Jin in zero-gravity. Wu Jing vs. an extraterrestrial. Wu Jing vs. Mark Strong. Wu Jing comes back, and then it’s Wu Jing vs. a planet of talking apes. And so on and so forth.

Hilarious! Can’t wait for the trailer!

  4. Shanghai for the 2044 Olympics then?

  5. Aerosniff Someglue says:

FX done by WETA, isn’t it? Not convinced by that aspect, but Wu Jing is far from dumb: if it works at the box-office, it’s gonna make him really big, if not, well, Wolf warrior 3 next year? Still a ballsy move IMHO.

  6. Jerry says:

Hated both Wolf Warrior films. Definitely have no hope for a Wu Jing movie that isn’t a martial arts action film of being any good.

  7. Andrew Hernandez says:

This looks surprisingly decent. I guess it could go either way, but it’s nice that the special effects don’t look like Playstation cut scenes.

Wu Jing has matured enough where I think he can carry a film without kicking and punching.

    Done by WETA.

    Netflix is a cancer.
