I’m a huge fan of Zahler, and seeing how this is getting a release, I picked a great time to get into his work. I’m really looking forward to this.

I had an insane experience watching ‘Brawl in Cell Block 99’ at a satellite Fantastic Fest screening. Right at the film’s most graphically violent moments (the titular brawl, which is more like a massacre), some drunk and belligerent, middle-aged ex-punk rocker in our audience started standing up and threatening to fight the people in the row behind him. People kept yelling at him to shut up and he ultimately had to be escorted out of the theater by staff and the film programmer. The anxiety of not knowing whether or not a real fight was going to break out combined with sight of the nauseating violence onscreen was a turbulent feeling I will not soon forget.

I haven’t watched the movie again!
