Today’s Deal on Fire is Criterion Collection’s Lone Wolf and Cub Collection on Blu-ray.

Based on the best-selling manga series, the six intensely kinetic Lone Wolf and Cub films elevated chanbara to bloody, new heights. The shogun’s executioner, Itto Ogami (Tomisaburo Wakayama), takes to wandering the countryside as an assassin—along with his infant son Daigoro (Akihiro Tomikawa) and an infinitely weaponized perambulator—helping those he encounters while seeking vengeance for his murdered wife.

Delivering stylish thrills and a body count that defies belief, Lone Wolf and Cub is beloved for its brilliantly choreographed and unbelievably violent action sequences as well as for its tender depiction of the bonds between parent and child.

if you got it early enough it was only 39.99 on Amazon. The price has since jumped to 99.00

    • Was that a mistake on amazons part?

      • Kyle Warner says:

It seems so. On the Criterion website I believe it listed every new Blu-ray release at $39.95 except for Lone Wolf & Cub which was $99.95. On Amazon, even Lone Wolf & Cub got the $39.95 price. So it looks like somebody messed up. I was lucky enough to spot it early on and got a pre-order in at that price before it jumped up. Good deal! If you missed out and you’re interested in the set, it’ll presumably go for about $50 at the next bi-annual Barnes & Noble sale, which is usually in November and July.

  2. Hanzo says:

I’m going to hold off selling my Animeigo DVDs and Blu-ray until I’ve seen screencaps of Criterion’s Lone Wolf & Cub. I made huge mistake selling my Female Prisoner collection because I assumed Shout Factory would do a great job on the transfer.

  3. Andrew Hernandez says:

Oh man, I lucked out when I got this set for 29.99!
