Meet the ultimate ‘Predator’ in the film’s Final Trailer

While the original Predator may have its share of cheesy one-liners, it’s regarded by most as a modern action classic. It’s a movie that many consider Arnold Schwarzenneger’s strongest effort, a movie that would most likely be called John McTiernan’s finest hour if it wasn’t for a little film called Die Hard.

Still, even more surprising than the fact that Hollywood would touch the sacred cow of Predator is the news that none other than Shane Black will be directing the film. Before he made headlines for writing and directing Iron Man 3, Black was a talented writer who rose to fame on the strength of scripts like Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout.

Alongside his meteoric rise as a screenwriter in the late Eighties, Black actually had a small supporting role in the original Predator as the character Hawkins; this blink-and-you’ll-miss-it part was apparently a way for the producers to try and coax Black into polishing the script for Predator, a task which he repeatedly refused. All these years later, the Predator story appears to be coming full circle, as Black has co-written – along with Fred Dekker (Iron Man 3) – the treatment for the new Predator, which he has also directed.

Black has confirmed that the new Predator film, titled The Predator, is actually an “inventive sequel” and not a reboot. Here’s the official plot: From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

The Predator stars Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Jacob Tremblay (Room), Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Sterling K. Brown (The People vs. O.J. Simpson), Alfie Allen (John Wick), Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Jake Busey (Starship Troopers), and Yvonne Strahovski (Killer Elite).

The Predator hits theaters on September 14th, 2018.

Let the Rock be the star. They will probably go with someone like Chris Hemsworth tho.

  2. ColinJ says:

    Ugh! She’s awful.

I was hoping this would be an all-male film like the first one (apart from the prisoner). But I don’t imagine the progressive hand-wringers in Hollywood would ever allow that. I’m amazed THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN got away with it.

  3. Jerry says:

I stopped reading and caring after I saw Olivia Munn in the article. Movie is alr day a dud.

  4. This film is going to rock. Love the cast so far and the fact that they are shooting with an R rating in mind. Can’t wait for Feb 9th, 2018

  5. Danny Shiflet says:

That cast picture fills me with dread, cause I don’t buy any of them as believable badasses. Olivia Munn is terrible, Boyd Holbrook can play an asshole well(see:Logan) but I don’t really buy him as a badass either. And Keegan Key? Seriously? Also, why the flying FUCK is there some obnoxious little kid front and center? Kids do NOT need to be anywhere near the main cast of a Predator movie unless we’re pulling some kinda comic book “child trained from birth to be a weapon/assassin” shit like X-23/Hitgirl/Cassandra Cain, and sorry, but that kid ain’t it.

  6. Kyle Warner says:

Odd trailer. Lacks rhythm and oomph. But I still have hope for the movie. Black writes dialogue with the best of em and the Predator is one of the coolest movie monsters ever, so I’m looking forward to it regardless of weak teasers and such.

  7. CJ says:

More pretty, perfect Hollywood people pretending to be bad-asses.

In the original it was a team of GENUINE bad-asses. The kind of guys who would go out after a day’s shooting and clear out a biker bar for fun.

This lot looks like they would complain about their soy lattes being too cold.

    • DougWonnacott says:

Ventura, yes. Landham, yes. Weathers, maybe. Schwarzenegger? Not sure he could count as a genuine bad-ass. Genuine asshole maybe. I don’t need to see yet another film full insecure beefcakes constantly trying to convince the audience of how manly and hetrosexual they are.

Why have human characters at all. This is a creature that travels to different planets to test his hunting skills. How about the Predator is on a hostile planet hunting aliens he’s underestimated. Have minimal alien dialogue (subtitled) at the beginning where an adolescent Predator is being told of his rites of passage mission. Then he’s trapped on a foreign planet, out of his depth, trying to survive. I’d love to see that.

I love the first two Predator films. The trailer for this film provoked a reaction in me of “Meh. Not interested.”

  8. Saku says:

Perfect movies don’t need remakes or reboots. Leave that for films that looked atrocious or fell short despite having great potential. That’s why the first remake of Scarface works, but nobody needs a second one. The first remake of The Thing works, and we don’t need a second one. The same goes for Predator, we don’t need a remake because the practical effects were perfect, the acting was great, and they put real effort into it and not just throw money at a bunch of computers and green-screen people.

It’s only when these horrible remakes and anime-adaptation films flop that these greedy fu-ks will learn their lesson! I will boycott this like I boycott the rest.

  9. Andrew Hernandez says:

This is more like it! I’m glad that of the humans, Sterling K Brown seems to be the lead. He’s one of today’s best actors and after Hotel Artemis, he’s shown his action chops.

It looks like Keegan Michael Key is playing Shane Black’s role from the first movie. Nice tribute. lol

I hope Olivia Munn gets to be involved in the action. After seeing her as Psyclocke, she should get more roles like that.

I liked Predators and was hoping this movie would keep that storyline going. I’m holding out for some kind of connection.

  10. Saku says:

So they’ve changed it to a sequel now. That’s good but I bet your ass the movie won’t have nearly the same suspense or cool effects as the original. I bet they’ll try to force a romance which is unneeded or a female badass that’s not believable, and worst of all they probably won’t show any blood and gore. Hollywood nowadays fire guns but nobody gets hurt. They just fall unconscious and like a video-game character their bodies disappear after 3 seconds. It’s a big problem with movies nowadays, people fire more guns but you actually see their effects and aftermath far far less. The cameras just pan away the moment the bullet hits its target.
