Despite backlash and lukewarm domestic box office returns, 2015’s Terminator Genisys performed well in international markets. In fact, here’s a tidbit you probably weren’t aware of: Terminator Genisys is the second-highest grossing film of the entire franchise (behind only T2: Judgment Day) on a global scale.

With that said, it’s no wonder that Terminator: Dark Fate (aka Terminator 6) is upon us. For this one, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys are ignored, which makes this upcoming film a direct continuation to T2: Judgment Day.

But what’s even more interesting is that series inventor, James Cameron (director of the first two Terminator films, who retained the rights to the franchise for 2019), is producing and Tim Miller (Deadpool) is his trusted writer/director in charge of bringing the series back to form. David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight), David Ellison, Josh Friedman, Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) and Justin Rhodes (Contract Killers) also make up the film’s writing force.

Terminator: Dark Fate also marks the return of Linda Hamilton (The Terminator 1 & 2), who will reprise her role as Sarah Connor, Edward Furlong returning as John Connor, and of course Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is rumored to not only be returning as model T-800, but also as the character to which the cyborg was modeled after. Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Diego Boneta (Luis Miguel: La Serie), Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Natalia Reyes (Birds of Passage) and Enrique Arce (Tango One) round out the cast.

Terminator: Dark Fate has received its R rating due to violence throughout the film as well as language and brief nudity (via CB).

The Terminator: Dark Fate hits theaters November 1st, 2019. Watch the film’s New Red Band Trailer below:

  1. Paul Bramhall says:

Interesting, considering ‘Genisys’ essentially already re-booted the series, completely invaliding most of what happens in the sequels prior.

  2. Zu Warrior says:

James Cameron getting the rights back in 2019.

  3. “Terminator Genisys is the second-highest grossing film of the entire franchise (behind only T2: Judgment Day) on a global scale.” – I’d be interested to see how much the Chinese box office was a contributing factor in this statement, an audience that wasn’t such a prevalent force when previous installments were released.

  4. Andrew Hernandez says:

It’s funny how whenever a movie in a franchise sucks, the film makers will then say “Oh, that didn’t REALLY happen!” I always welcome that mentality. Lol

    • JJ Bona says:

Lol i hope they do the same with Die Hard.

      • They may have diluted John McClane to the point he’s unrecognizable, but as long as they leave Joe Hallenbeck alone, I’m good.

        • JJ Bona says:

With the right director/script/team, they can make it come fill circle (kind of like what they did with the last Rambo flick). Joe Hallenbeck is no John McClain. You’re in Gareth Evans world, dude! 😉

    • JJ Bona says:

I think the whole whenever a movie in a franchise sucks, the film makers will then say “Oh, that didn’t REALLY happen!” happened first with Die Hard with a Vengeance. The Nakatomi incident is referred to in Die Hard with a Vengeance, but any reference of the Die Hard II plot are non-existent! I mean, he saved a whole airport FFS! lol

  5. Mike Retter says:

Terrible looking and overused CG, looks worthless and meaningless. Strictly for gamers and the obese only.

  6. Andrew Hernandez says:

I’m intrigued! It’s great to see Linda Hamilton back in action, and I like what James Cameron said about how (paraphrasing) “If old guys like Liam Neeson can do action why not older women too?

With her and Mackenzie Davis at the front, I’m wondering if this will continue Hollywood’s “Girls With Guns” theme. (Or if it means Arnold is an extended cameo.)

For the next Die Hard, I’ll be happy if someone hits Bruce with a cattle prod, and makes him give a damn about his films. Pretend that Die Hard 5 didn’t happen, but don’t ignore the others!

Shane Black is also in a position where he could have Bruce reprise Joe Hallenbeck if he also has the cattle prod!

  7. Saku says:

Judging by the trailer this film is going to be a bunch of CLICHES and explosions.

And when 3 of the 4 protagonists are women, that’s a red flag. It makes suspension of disbelief hard because its not grounded in reality. That’s cool if its an original concept (especially an anime) but NOT when its an existing concept with pre-existing norms and expectations. What makes someone like Sara Connor enjoyable is because she was seemingly an ordinary woman thrown into extraordinary circumstances, and persevering despite the odds. But when you have an army of female badasses, that shit rarely works in live-action form without going in some sort of cartoonish angle.

This movie will be a major disappointment compared to T1 and T2.
