Today’s Deal on Fire is the Blu-ray for Sheldon Lettich’s Double Impact (read our review), starring Jean-Claude Van Damme (Double TeamCyborg) and Bolo Yeung (Diamond Cartel, Clones of Bruce Lee).

Van Damme leaps into the dual roles of Chad and Alex Wagner, twin brothers who were separated after their parents’ brutal murder. Years later, the two couldn’t be more different: Chad is a slick Beverly Hills fitness instructor, while Alex is a rough and tumble smuggler on the gritty streets of Hong Kong. But when fate throws them together again, Chad and Alex discover that there’s one thing they have in common: they’re both fighting machines! Determined to enact revenge on their parents’ killers, the martial arts experts kick, chop and shoot all the way to an electrifying final showdown aboard a gargantuan freighter in Hong Kong harbor.

This 1991 production most likely gave Jackie Chan the inspiration for Twin Dragons (1992).

“So take your fancy clothes and your French silk underwear and head back to Disney Land.” I think I got that right 😛

Ah! A personal fav of mine from the early JCVD years. For those who grew up watching Indian Movies, Double Impact had the added appeal of riffing on a trope common to Bollywood Movies of the 70s and 80s: Twins separated when young, who reunite as adults, then team up to take down the scum bags who cause their separation 🙂

On that note, has any other actor in the history of Western Cinema done as many double roles as Van Damme?

Double Impact, Timecop (Past & Present versions), Maximum Risk (twins again), Replicant (original and clone)
