  1. Jeff Kerman says:

My pick is Kickboxer. I know it is beloved by many, but I find the actual kickboxing to be slow and ponderous.

  2. The Raid. It’s definitely an intense, claustrophobic film, with some suspenseful scenes and some amazing action, but it in no way lived up to its hype.

  3. Lee Golden says:

The most “overrated” one is difficult for me to say, but if I were to choose, I would choose The Bourne Identity, but not so much for the film itself. My issue is the style of action – shaky cam and frenetic pacing of the choreography. While some may find that entertaining, the so-called “Bourne” style of action is part of what makes it increasingly difficult for moviegoers to accept the way an action movie should look when it comes to its fights. Stuntmen and screenfighters want their work to be valued, and a small, but growing number of cult filmmakers like Steve Wang, Eric Jacobus, Isaac Florentine, Gareth Evans and the like are contributing to that aspect of the action, but it is not enough. In an age where grounded action movies are being outnumbered by SFX-laden blockbusters, we need more genuine action movies. And we need the action done better. Not that I’m dogging the accomplishments of the Bourne franchise, but you can get even more satisfaction by watching films like The Perfect Weapon – an American film and one of the few classics that got it right in the early 90’s.

The craft needs to be respected again. So it’s fair to say, if I’m to be blunt here, that I can go the rest of my life without ever seeing another Bourne film.

It was good while it lasted, but now its time to go back to work!

  4. Ben says:

I would name any film by Chuck Norris, but I don’t want to die. Seriously though, I’d say Ninja: Shadow of a Tear took itself a little too seriously.

  5. ken lee says:

the most overrated movie is in my eyes is Jackie chans DRUNKEN MASTER. the movie is ok for its time but not as big as what most people make it out to be.

  6. Travis G. says:

For me it’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. My main reason for thinking it is over-rated is the over use of wire work. It’s a decent movie, but not one I would ever watch again.

  7. bill norris says:

i’d agree with Drunken Master ….now the second one kicks much @$$

  8. Matthew A. says:

Mine would be The Last Ku fung Monk..horrible!

  9. wen budro says:

Drunken Master is the most overrated of them all.

    • OpiumkungfuAsshole says:

You think Drunken Master is overrated? What’s another underrated drunken boxing movie you liked then?

  10. Chad Harry says:

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon for sure… Do not get me wrong.. I love the fact it lit a fire under people in getting everyone interested in Martial Art films or Foreign Films in general but i can name numerous other films each actor in this film that they have made better… Its a film I am glad I saw once but will never watch again unless I am that bored.

  11. Chris Lane says:

Id probably have to pick Rush Hour as being the most overrated of all time. Great comedy but subpar for its action (especially considering jackies filmography).

  12. Kyle Warner says:

I never thought too highly of Iron Monkey. I think Yuen Woo-ping is a fantastic martial arts choreographer, but not much of a director.

  13. Tomas says:

I really don’t have too many martial arts movies that I find overrated……….Although, Kickboxer was OK for me.

  14. Isaac says:

I believe the Bloodfist series were the most overrated for me. I know Don “The Dragon” Wilson is a amazing fighter, but it did not come through in regards to the action. The martial arts look staggered, slow, and not what you would expect from a tournament where your life could be taken away by not being fierce enough.

  15. OpiumkungfuAsshole says:

Rush Hour. Yes Rush Hour is a martial arts movie because it has a martial arts mega star and has martial arts fighting in it. Fuck Rush Hour.

  16. OpiumkungfuAsshole says:

You guys are pissing me off calling Drunken Master overrated!!!

  17. David says:

Hope I don’t get a lot of hate for this; but in my opinion pretty much all of Jackie Chan’s movies are over rated. Just never been a fan of his comical style of martial arts.
