  1. I wouldn’t 100% qualify it as an “action” film, but “Chaser” does the job for me. Runners up: “I Saw the Devil” and “The Yellow Sea” – again, both not really action films, but have enough brutality in them to satisfy action fanatics! “A Bittersweet Life” is also up there!

  2. Britton Doner says:

“The Man from Nowhere”‘ is my favorite. This is because it is fast-paced and not too cheesy. The lead actor does a fine job.

  3. Mo says:

“Shiri” aka “Swiri” will always hold a dear place in my heart. It was the first of the “we can do big-budget action as well as America” and the performances by Choi Min Sik, Yunjin Kim (pre-LOST) and Kang Ho Song are awesome. Just don’t play the final voicemail scene, because I will most certainly get misty-eyed.

  4. Nick EML says:

    City of Violence.

A crazy action movie with two guys fighting loads of baddies. I love the characters, and the settings are just amazing.

  5. Alan tan says:

The Man from Nowhere has good fight choreography, not corny at all.

  6. Matthew A. says:

Wow there’s so many to name, Old Boy(original), Arahan, War of the arrows, The man from nowhere. I love them all because all though they have really great action scenes, they all have an amazing story plot as well.

  7. Ben says:

I have a soft spot for “Arahan” because it really introduced me to Korean action movies, and it just resonated with me for some reason. Oddly enough, it was a very hard to find it on Region A compatible Blu Ray. In reading the other posts here, I see references to “I saw the Devil”, “Oldboy”, “War of the Arrows”, “City of Violence”, “Man From Nowhere”, “Yellow Sea”, and “Bittersweet Life”. I’m not exaggerating when I say that “Arahan” is the reason I own these fine films as well.

  8. Sheldon says:

“The Good, The Bad, and The Weird” is just plain fun. Visually exciting with a plethora of awesome scenes and camera moves.

“Chaser” is also quite impressive. One of the best thrillers, I’d say!

  9. Derek says:

The Man From Nowhere had a good story and amazing knife fight at the end. City of Violence had quite a few great fights. Fighter in the Wind had some great training scenes and realistic fight scenes.

  10. jAIMIE RECTOR says:

    WAR OF THE ARROWS

  11. kaiai says:

My latest Korean pick would be The Berlin File. It’s got action, intrigue and drama with very good acting from the cast.

  12. David K says:

For action I would go with War of Arrows. But my favorite Korean films are Old Boy, Thirst, and The Host.

  13. Isaac says:

    Fighter in the Wind

This is one of the most brutal, authentic movies that shows the creation of a powerful martial artist. A must have for martial arts connoisseurs!

  14. Ron says:

Once Upon A Time In High School. Loved the grittiness of the fight scenes.
